Hugh
(Jimmy) Clifford
was born in England in 1910. In 1928,
he sailed with friends to British Honduras, later becoming a merchant
seaman. He moved to Vancouver by 1930 and to West Vancouver in 1946,
where he started an art supply store. In 1986, Jimmy set the world
record for marathons in the 80-year-old category, running the 42
kilometer course in 4:19:56. Jimmy Clifford passed away in 1990
and his record holds today.

Tom
Mobraaten
was born in Kongsberg, Norway in 1910
and immigrated to Canada in 1930, moving to the West Coast in search
of skiing terrain. Training on Hollyburn Ridge where he built a
cabin with two friends, Tom represented Canada in the ski jump event
at the 1936 Olympics in Berline and the 1948 Olympics in St. Moritz,
Switzerland.
